Grenadine Bacon Candy

Grenadine Bacon CandyGrenadine Candied BaconThese wonderful and slightly pink treats are tasty and ‘cute’ if you could describe bacon in such a way. A perfect breakfast in bed for Mom, or snipped into bite-sized finger food at a baby shower. Now I’m not saying that these should only be served to the ladies, it just happened to have been created as a ‘virgin’ version of the bourbon candied bacon I made previously.

Other than a little time needed for marinading this recipe is quite easy, and requires very few ingredients. Just be sure to get thick cut bacon. Either plain or peppered is fine.

Serves:2-4

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices of thick-cut bacon, plain or peppered
  • 1/3 cup grenadine, or more as needed
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

Directions:

  1. Marinade the bacon with the grenadine in a bowl for 1-2 hour. Add enough grenadine to sufficiently cover the bacon, and/or turn the pieces a few times throughout for even marinading.
  2. Place a piece of parchment or foil in a baking sheet with a drying wrack over-top. Lay the marinaded bacon on the wrack with all the pieces tightly touching.
  3. Break apart the sugar in a bowl and sprinkle half of it evenly over the bacon.
  4. Bake in the pre-heated oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
  5. Remove from oven, smooth the sugar over each piece with the back of a spoon, and let stand for a few minutes (2-5).
  6. Flip each piece and line up again closely touching on the roasting wrack. Sprinkle remaining sugar over, and bake for an additional 15-18 minutes. You can decided if you want your bacon to be a little chewy or completely crispy.
  7. Do one final smoothing with the spoon, let cool to the touch, and serve. You can let your guests get their fingers sticky, (it’s fantastic finger-licking,) or serve with bamboo skewers for ‘bacon-on-a-stick.’
