I love the summers in Alaska. I really do. I don’t know anyone in their right mind who could say otherwise. The thing is, I’ve gone through my share of winters here in Anchorage. Granted they’re not terrible winters like those you get farther north, but they last long enough that I’m just getting downright tired of them.

I’m really looking forward to heading out and seeing some other parts of the world. Partly because this summer is flying by so fast and I know winter is on its way, but mostly because I just feel it’s time to experience some other cultures and learn to try new foods.

Vanessa and I love to cook. After all, why would we have this website if we didn’t?

That’s part of our inspiration for wanting to travel. I don’t want to end up looking back some twenty years from now and asking myself why I didn’t go out and have the adventures that I could have.

Why didn’t I learn to try new things?

That’s one of my biggest fears. The best memories I have are the ones where I stepped out of my comfort zone (sometimes maybe prodded) and got to see a place I hadn’t been to before and experience new and excited things.

So yesterday was a super rainy day. Basically all day long it rained except for some intermittent breaks. And it reminded me that it was indeed August; a rainy month and one of the last months of summer. Where did the summer go?

I’m hoping we aren’t stuck here for another winter. But we told ourselves even if the property doesn’t sell until midwinter or whatever, we’ll simply drive our Dodge through Canada to Washington state and buy a travel trailer there. We’ll see if that actually works out.

In the meantime, we decided to cook a chicken on our little grill that evening. I plan on using the barbecued chicken we cooked that night in a picture for one of our sidebar link pictures. Which reminds me, I need to do that soon. Scratch that, the kitchen is currently occupied.

This Alaska summer is flying by way to fast

Yes that’s a tiny grill, and yes we are aware that we made a big mess.

We had planned to be out of here and hauling our travel trailer around the lower forty-eight by now. Perhaps boondocking somewhere in Utah, or possibly taking Nathan to the Mall of America for the first time. The idea was to work our way east and find a place to settle down for the winter. Or at least what we know to be winter.

Then we could take a trip to Europe and I could finally check one of the big items off my list. I’m very slowly learning French so I’m particularly excited to visit there and see the Eiffel Tower.

What happened? I guess things rarely if ever go as planned. While we know the property will eventually sell, it just means we have to be patient and adjust our travel plans around that time when the property does sell. Who knows, maybe there’s some reason for us to still be stuck here that we don’t know about.

It’s reached that time of the year again when it’s actually getting dark at night. You can see that in the picture below.

August night in Anchorage Alaska

The rain finally let up by time late evening came around here in Anchorage Alaska

So I guess we’ll just continue on working on the website and adding videos to our YouTube channel. It’s what we enjoy doing among other things. The building will eventually sell, and we’ll be on our way. At least that’s the goal.

Thanks for any of you who may have read this whole thing. I’ve kind of just rambled on a little bit, sharing some of my thoughts. There wasn’t much of a point to any of this post. Sometimes it just feels a little overwhelming or that we’ll never get everything done that we need to before we can leave.
